CSA Weekly

A meager little bag this week… Only one bunch of greens and one bag of mixes lettuces.

Fun new item of the week: pattypan squash. Confession: I’ve never cooked one before. I don’t know if I’ve ever eaten one before. Help? It looks intimidating.

I was also very excited to see the return of potatoes. Especially cute little ones!

  1. Our CSA bag here in Colorado was very full this month…much better than spring.
We got 3 patty pans too. They are like any summer squash. I like to slice them and saute’ with a bit of onion, parsley and other herbs. But you could put them in any recipe you have for zuchini or crookneck.

What kind of greens are those?
We have been enjoying lots of kale and chard. Someone at the dropoff looked in her extra large box and said- what is this? concerning her ruby chard and I waxed eloquent on recipes so she said sounds like you love it. You can have it. 🙂 I do love chard and kale 🙂

  2. Sad, it looks like all the summer produce is starting to taper off- I hope we get a few more weeks! I’ve heard of a lot of people roasting the pattypan squash- Chocolate+Zucchini has a recipe that looks awesome! http://chocolateandzucchini.com/archives/2009/08/roasted_patty_pan_squash_and_herbed_chickpeas.php

  3. Leah, can you post what you do with your patty pan squash? I keep getting them in my CSA box and i have no idea what to do with them either!!! 🙂 As always I love reading your blog!

  4. The only patty pan squash I’m familiar with was on Farmville. Curious to see what you do with it.

  5. I love patty pan squash! I cut it up in rounds like zucchini and cook it in a frying pan with salt, pepper and olive oil. So simple but it’s perfect!

Our CSA was a little dismal this week too. We did get some spaghetti squash that I’m excited about. Otherwise, kind of lame.
