Bremerton And Blackberries

We’ve had a wonderful day! After lunch, we headed into Bremerton to go to the Blackberry Festival.

We wandered around Bremerton a bit first. The town has recently put a bunch of money towards prettying up downtown and the waterfront.

The main lifeline of Bremerton is the Naval Shipyard.

I love all the fountains and stone work.

We made our way down to the festival – boy was it crowded! I figured today would be a little bit lighter than yesterday and a better day to go but apparently that didn’t matter!

We buzzed through the market pretty quickly since it was so packed. We weren’t really interested in food or vendors and I was surprised by the lack of blackberry things available. I did take a swig of some super sweet (and not in the good way) blackberry soda.

We ended up walking around for over an hour before heading back home.

We relaxed all afternoon and evening and I don’t feel at all guilty about it! A movie or two, some popcorn, some chocolate, some Scrabble.

Dinner simmered on the stove for a couple of hours!

Italian Sausage Soup

1 package of Hot Italian Sausage, removed from casing

2 cloves garlic, smashed

1 large red onion, diced

1 red bell pepper, diced

1 can diced tomatoes

1 32oz carton of chicken broth

1 mini-bottle of white wine

1 cup kalamata olives, pitted and chopped

1 can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried thyme

Heat large pot over medium-high heat, brown sausage.

Combine the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 1-1 1/2 hrs.

We used my parents venison sausage.

Ridiculously easy, right?

It was delicious. I topped our bowls with a sprinkling of parmesan.

The boy even had seconds!

And there was dessert a couple hours later.

Banana soft serve with carob chips!

I’m off to kick Jodus’ butt at Scrabble. Do you realize he has one every single game we’ve played since May?! This is unacceptable.

  1. I love walking around towns and cities to really discover them and get a feel for them. The market looked nice too.
