Baby, All I Want For Christmas

I don’t know if you guys know this about me or not, but I am pretty much obsessed with Mariah Carey.

It’s been an ongoing thing.

For… oh… the last… decade… at least.

I hinted on Black Friday.

I started listening to her Christmas album.

I am obsessed.

I listen to it every year.

It’s what truly puts me in the Christmas spirit.

Other than Mariah Carey Christmas album, there isn’t a whole lot that excites me about Christmas.

I hate the chaos and commercialism of it.

But I do enjoy the lights. As long as they aren’t tacky.

I’m a white lights sort of gal.

Pretty sure that Jodus not-so-secretly hates that about me.

(That’s last year’s tree!)

And I suppose, like everyone, I love getting gifts. But again, I hate the commercialization of it all.

I’d rather get a homemade gift, or a very thoughtful gift than something big and flashy. Though I’ve never turned down a piece of bling. 😉

Last year, I was unemployed and had time to kill so I made everyone cross stitches.

This year, time is not my friend.

We’ll be spending the day with my Grandma Sue, her husband Greg, and my dad. We have opted to forego the gift giving this year and I am thrilled. I do plan on bringing some baked goods to exchange though!

And Jodus and I have limited ourselves to under $100 to fill our stockings for each other.

I’ve put a lot of thought into inexpensive yet thoughtful gifts for my other family members.

And I have 3 different Secret Santa gifts that I have to do. One for each of my jobs (limit $15 and $25), and one for Bloggie Secret Santa.

I’m a bit stressed about all these little things adding up. And obviously, you guys are aware, I got a second job to help cover some of the difference.

But it saddens me that I am not going to have time toeven try to enjoy the holidays… Instead, I will be working. Just so I can pay for things. Pay for gifts. Pay my bills. Save money for our honeymoon. Ahhhh, American consumerism.

This season will not be filled with endless hours of baking cookies, sipping spiked eggnog at night, and watching holiday movies.

Baby, all I want for Christmas is time.

Or to win the lottery.

I’d be happy with either.

  1. I also love Mariah and that song!

I’m a walking contradiction when it comes to commercialism/consumerism. It’s hard to fight it, it’s so *American*. I always “want” stuff, but I’m usually too cheap to give in, but at least the stuff I want is mostly fitness/food/tech related, so it serves a purpose.
The part I hate about Christmas is the fact that people feel they need to overspend, spend X amount per person, seek quantity not quality in their gift choices, all in hopes of “pleasing” their loved ones…it’s a sad mess.
I’m super dorky and into cultural analysis and such, I’ve always thought it would be interesting to work retail during the holidays.
I know Nordstrom’s is kind of upscale, but have you had any interesting experiences in retail? (I bet if someone worked Walmart at the holidays they could surely write a book about that)

Just keeping thinking about Mariah’s song and the honeymoon, Christmas will be gone before you know it and there’s good stuff to come 🙂

  2. What? I don’t… not-so-secretly hate you for preferring white X-Mas lights. I’d prefer to phrase it as…. secretly wishing you would consider the idea of using multi-colored X-Mas lights. Hehe. BUT the white light thing is a little classier. I won’t complain too much. 🙂

BTW, I can’t tell you how often I go online to search for Mariah Carey concert tickets for the Seattle area. You can count on going if/when she ever makes the trip to the Northwest. 🙂

  3. Ahhh, I love Christmas music!! (And Mariah sings it well ; )

  4. Colored lights, ewwww. Leah obviously gets her good taste from her Mom. And boy do I know how much you obsessed about Mariah!

  5. Jodus I agree with you about the colored lights. It’d make your guys Charlie Brown tree look better. And Mariah’s good but not good enough to obses.se about
